Institute for Circumpolar Health Studies
ICHS is located on the University of Alaska Anchorage campus and houses the Center for Alcohol and Addiction Studies. Working closely with faculty throughout the University of Alaska system, ICHS provides technical assistance and support to increase the capacity within the state to address the health needs of all Alaskans. ICHS also encourages student involvement through academic course work, internships, and research assistantships.
Alaska Center for Rural Health
The Alaska Center for Rural Health (ACRH) was created in 1987 by rural health care providers, educators, and administrators. Their aim was to improve the distribution, supply, quantity, and efficiency of health care personnel serving rural Alaskans. The mission of the ACRH has broadened since then. The aim now is to improve access to a comprehensive, culturally relevant health care system for rural Alaska by providing information, coordination, technical assistance, and professional development to rural health providers and systems.
NRC for American Indian, Alaska Native & Native Hawaiian Elders
In 2004, the first year of the grant, the National Resource Center (NRC) will focus on Alaska Native communities and processes to assess the needs of communities and Elders in providing culture-based Elder care. Ultimately, these assessment processes and value determinations will be shared with other American Indian and Native Hawaiian communities.
Rocky Mountain Public Health Education Consortium
The purpose of RMPHEC is to improve the health status of, and eliminate health disparities among, women, children, and families, including those with special health needs. This will be done by increasing the knowledge, skills, and capacity of public health professionals, paraprofessionals, organizations and systems in the Rocky Mountain and surrounding states and Tribes within the region.
